The elementary school hosted the Fall Scholastic Book Fair this week. David and I have been helping set up and take down the book fair since we switched schools. It's a lot of fun to see what's available before everyone else and get that head start on shopping. Unfortunately, I was scheduled to sub a lot during the week of book fair so I didn't get to help out as much as usual. However, David stepped up and did a great thing for the library. Scholastic usually sends a costume for us to use to advertise for the book fair. Geronimo Stilton, a great mouse adventurer, was the costume included this time. David agreed to dress up in the costume and welcome kids to school Monday morning with the principal, be on the morning tv announcements, and visit with kindergarteners. Since kindergarteners have never been to a book fair it's quite over whelming. Our wonderful librarian has the kids come for a preview: see what's available and make a wish list to take home for mom/dad to peruse. So Geronimo helped the kinder students be noticed by the volunteers to get their wishlists completed. You know it's hard to notice a five-year-old raising their hand next to a bookcase. Thank goodness a big mouse in a green suit was there to help! David spent about 2 hours in the costume bringing excitement about books. The book fair a huge success as usual and that means more reading fun for Minshew! -S
