Math Fun Time

The PTA always throws a great program to entice everyone to attend the PTA meetings. My friend Kathleen did another excellent job putting on Math Night. The teachers for every grade select games to share with the kids and they even get to take them home. Also a big draw for the evening is Estimation Jars. They include toys, candy, supplies, etc that the student who estimates closest wins. The girls couldn't wait to complete their guesses. We will find out tomorrow if the estimated correctly. Oh my, we could bring home tootsie rolls, play doh, mini markers, rolls and rolls of smarties, or lollipops. Can you imagine the sugar high?? Next up, Reading night in February. I'll remember the camera then! -S

Grown Ups Finally

David and I are very picky people when it comes to spending money on permanent things. He wants something solid, well made, that will last a very long time. I want something well made that doesn't cost like it's well made! So you'd figure it would take us many months choosing our bedroom suite. Since purchasing the house in 2004 we've dreamed of getting just the right pieces for the master bedroom. Luckily the suite we've been comparing all others to went on sale. Because you know I can't really buy anything if it's not on sale!! So I surprised David with the announcement we would going to purchase the suite he's wanted for 12+ months. And low and behold, it actually matches the ceiling fan we put in that first summer! Since it took so long to choose and purchase and it looks so pretty I thought I'd share it. Not to mention we feel like actual grown ups now with a matching dresser, nightstand, and dresser/mirror. A side benefit of having furniture that fits the room... warmer room temperature because the headboard, nightstand, and hope chest now cover the outside wall. Who Knew???

We were supposed to paint the room first but worried about the color choice and it going with the furniture. As you can tell it's going to be really hard to get paint on those walls now. Oh well, I think the hallway was a big enough job for a year or so. Then maybe we'll have the nerve and strength to move those pieces and paint. -S

Sad Days

We received word that David's Grandmother passed away and traveled home (South-Central Illinois). She was 82 years young and a real ball of fire. Both girls were given middle names of grandmothers, she was Kierstin's namesake. During the services, I found out how much more than a name she shares with her great-grandmother. I will try harder now to cut her some slack in the having a concrete set mind on something or bringing humor into almost every instance. I realize now that it's just in her and that we are lucky to have Gracia live on through her (and daddy). It was nice for David to see family he hasn't in too many years, as well. The girls handled the services very well and were excellent in the car too.

It's January??

Okay so it's supposed to be January but Mother Nature decided to give us a break. Being the smart person I am, (insert laughter here), I decided we were heading to the park for a walk. The weather person said it was supposed to reach near 70. Kierstin took that to mean Spring/Summer type clothing. It didn't get that high but it was nice to be out without a parka, hat, scarf, glvoes, and the typical freeze your butt January regular days.
