Our Newest Friends

Right before we left on vacation we added a bird feeder to the backyard because lots of birds were visiting us anyways. Two in particular, barn swallows we believe, were enjoying the post on back stoop and decided to call it home. While we were away they started at a nest and continued upon our return. We've been watching the pair fly in and out of the covered area and spend time in the nest. We've not noticed anyone staying in the nest at all hours like one would expect nesting parents to do. However, we discovered on Friday morning the nest has been busier then expected. We noticed fuzziness poking out the top and the mated pair particularily busy. It turns out 5 eggs have recently hatched and their young are living in the nest. Our research tells us to expect the young to remain for about 3 weeks and it's possible for the mates to have a second brood this season. Our hope is to be able to sneak out again at the week markings and take more pictures of the babies. So stay tuned it should be an interesting science lesson going on in our yard.

Adrienne was telling us all about your baby birds! What an exciting thing to have happen right where you can watch it.
