Rain Ruins Plans Again

Our vacation this year was planned as a 'sight seeing' trip of Texas. We planned to head to the coast (South Padre and Galveston) and on the way see some of Hill Country. David enjoys visiting and getting wine from smaller vineyards. He says there's something different about knowing where it came from and the work people put into making their product. He found Canyon of the Eagles lodge while researching Hill Country. The lodge is northwest of Austin and is across the lake from the northern most winery in Texas. They have an official observatory located on their premises that the Austin Astronomical Society uses for Star Parties. So we booked a cabin to attend the June viewing. Well we tried to visit this wonderful lodge on Father's Day during our vacation. However, that's when Mother Nature decided she was going to cast rain upon North Texas for nearly 3 straight weeks. As we were driving there the weather just didn't seem like it was going to cooperate so we cancelled. However, they require a deposit to book a room and if you need to cancel you can use that deposit for another time. The new plan was to use the deposit on a cabin this weekend for the July Star Party. Well of course the rain is here again. We're getting desperate now, only 1 more chance before school starts! The new new plan is for no rain in mid August so we can view the skies, enjoy some beautiful scenery, and David can finally pick out a Hill Country wine. Otherwise, I'm either going to have to choose between taking the girls out of school on a Monday or giving up our deposit. And we all know how very CHEAP I am so which option do you forsee us doing? Don't get me wrong... I love that we have a full, green yard and that I haven't needed to run the sprinklers very much. Also we haven't had a 100 degree day yet in July but it really is getting ridiculous! -S

The only benefit of not staying at the Lodge in June... We got see Corpus Christi and arrived in South Padre much earlier then planned! The girls were happy to have the additional beach time.
